Gurudwara Nanak Sar Sahib

Nanak Sar Sahib Nanded

Gurudwara Nanak Sar Sahib is located 10 km to the south west of Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazoor Abchal Nagar Sahib, Nanded. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji stopped over here en-route to Bidar. There is a Ber tree where Guru Ji sat in devotion for nine days and nine hours."

........One day his companion Bhai Mardana Ji requested, ‘Oh! My lord,I am very thirsty. I want water’. Guru Ji in reply ordered him to take up the Rabab (a string instrument) and play the “Dhun of Kartar” (Tune of Almighty Lord). Obeying Guru Nanak’s order Bhai Mardanaji started playing the Rabab. Suddenly a spring of cool and sweet water appeared. Guru Ji revealed the secret of the water's appearence, "This pious land belongs to God, that’s why the water is so cool and sweet ".

During the course of discussion a leper came and requested Guru Sahib Ji, “Be kind enough to remove my leprosy so i may get rid of this agony”. Guru Sahib gave him a bath under the spring and made him to drink water of the spring. Thus the patient recovered from leprosy by the grace of Guru Ji. He then requested Guru Sahib “Please bestow up on this spring to be a holy Pool (sarovar) so that many people would get rid of sorrows and pains". Guru Ji blessed the spring to be a holy sarovar and said whosoever has not child or is suffering from any disease should take a dip in this sarovar with faith and devotion, his hopes and wishes will be fulfilled. Firstly the service of digging and building of this holy sarovar was done by Sher-E-Punjab Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Ji. Currently renovation service of sarovar and Gurudwara Sahibji is being done by Sant Baba Narinder Singh Ji and Sant Baba Balwinder Singh Ji.

It was here that in the first week of Sept’1708, that a Bairagi Sadhu Madho Dass was baptized to Sikhism by Guru Gobind Singh ji and was given a new name – Banda Singh Bahadur. It was this great hero who in the next seven years (1709-1715) gave a sharp turn to the history of Sikhs by shaking the foundation of Mughal Empire in the North-west and paved the way for the liberation of the Punjab in 1764-65.
His another disciple Bhai Santokh Singh was advised to continue to stay at Nanded and to start "Guru ka Langar" for the devotees.

Administrative Message

As Administrative of the Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib Gurdwara Board, Nanded, it is my humble privilege to invoke the blessings of the Ten Gurus and apprise the Sadh Sangat the world over as to what plans are afoot to fittingly commemorate the 300th anniversary of the consecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Gur Ta Gaddi) and the Parlokgaman (heavenly journey) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at NandedI am more than conscious of the fact that without their blessings and your cooperation, such a mighty task can never be accomplished. In view of the great religious and national significance of this eventwe are expecting millions of Sikh pilgrims and other visitors to visit Nanded two years hence. Therefore, extensive plans are underway for the redevelopment and beautification of the Gurdwara complex and its surroundings. The entire complex is being so redesigned as to accommodate at one time at least 25,000 devotees in the Parikrama (corridor) or inner circle of the Gurdwara itself. Besides, many other equally important projects are in hand. to evoke the visitors’ interest in Nanded and Sikhism.
